Zen Interiorscape
Project Description

An interiorscape, part of a glass and steel house that uses one room on the second floor. Its position is important as it has the main floor corridor passing on its right. The client requirements was to create something lite but at the same time substantial in its design that ultimately presented the qualities of 'Zen'. The result are two concepts which utilise similar materials: the first one has crushed-stone mounds with a single bamboo water feature in the middle while steel wire lines pass through the rest of the viewing plane; the second has the same stone mounds with added rock shards set up in layers and the water feature is double making an effect called 'Shishi, Odoshi' in Japanese, meaning 'deer scarer'. In both concepts the glass wall at the back is frosted so that it adds more substance to the atmosphere.
